Solihull

Solihull is a borough with an exhibition centre, an airport, out-of-town office parks, large villages, and addresses that say Birmingham or Coventry. We are not based there and will not pretend to be. What we can do is plan search around the way the borough is really laid out and addressed.

What is included

  • A written list of every address and place-name form used across your site, schema and listings
  • A decision on which form is the official one and which describe the area you serve
  • A review of whether your premises meet Google's Business Profile eligibility rule
  • A map of your buying group and the searches each member makes
  • A crawl and indexation check of the pages a buyer relies on, ranked by likely effect on enquiries

01

Is Solihull part of Birmingham when you search for a supplier?

No. Solihull is its own metropolitan borough, formed in 1974 by merging Solihull County Borough with most of Meriden Rural District, though it adjoins Birmingham to the west and north and sits inside the West Midlands county. The confusion is real because the postal system does not follow the council boundary, which the sections below unpick.

That matters when choosing an SEO agency or any supplier for a Solihull business, because the borough is not one market. It runs from residential suburbs in the north to two towns, out-of-town office parks, an exhibition centre and an airport, and on to large villages beyond the M42 that lie outside the conurbation. A page that claims to know “Solihull” as a single thing is describing a postcode label, not a place.

Solihull was also historically part of Warwickshire, which is worth remembering when you clean up older listings. If your trade straddles the boundary, our Birmingham page covers the other side of it.

The point

Solihull was also historically part of Warwickshire, which is worth remembering when you clean up older listings.

02

What are the different parts of Solihull borough?

Four, for marketing purposes: a residential north (Castle Bromwich, Marston Green, Chelmsley Wood), the towns of Solihull and Shirley, large villages in the east and south (Knowle, Dorridge, Meriden, Balsall Common), and a cluster of big sites around the NEC and Birmingham Airport. Each calls for a different search plan.

Part of the boroughPlacesWhat is thereWhat it means for search
NorthCastle Bromwich, Marston Green, Smith's Wood, Chelmsley Wood, FordbridgeMostly residential. Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens, a visitor attraction, is here. The postal address says Birmingham, so the borough name has to be supplied in the text.
TownsSolihull, ShirleySolihull town centre has the Touchwood shopping centre, opened in 2002, and a High Street pedestrianised since 1994. Blythe Valley Park is a district of the town.A search that simply says Solihull is most naturally read as the town centre, so a business in Shirley or on a park should say where it actually is.
VillagesKnowle, Dorridge, Meriden, Balsall CommonLarge villages in the east and south, outside the West Midlands conurbation. The M42 divides them from the urban centre. Meriden and Balsall Common carry Coventry postcodes. Each village is its own catchment. A trader in Dorridge and one in Meriden are both in Solihull but are unlikely to compete for the same customers.
Big sitesThe NEC, Birmingham Airport, Birmingham Business ParkThe NEC opened in 1976 and hosts national trade shows. The airport is beside it. Birmingham Business Park, first developed in 1988, is an out-of-town office park inside the borough.Buyers arrive from elsewhere. Visibility for events and for suppliers to these sites does not depend on being searched for as Solihull at all.
03

Why does a Solihull address say Birmingham or Coventry?

Because Royal Mail post towns do not follow the borough boundary. Solihull borough contains places with a Solihull post town (B90 to B94), a Birmingham post town (Castle Bromwich, Chelmsley Wood, Marston Green, the NEC and the airport) and a Coventry post town (Meriden and Balsall Common). Which one your business uses decides what directories and map data hold.

05

What do Solihull's business parks mean for a B2B marketer?

They mean the buyer is usually not local. Birmingham Business Park calls itself the Midlands' most established out-of-town office park, and Blythe Valley Park has been developed since 1999 as large office blocks in parkland beside junction 4 of the M42. Offices of that kind tend to be where a firm is based, not where its customers are.

A park address is also a trap for local search. Google expects a Business Profile business to make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours, so a head office that customers never visit may not qualify. For these firms the website, the buyer-facing pages and a consistent description matter far more than a map pin, and being described the same way wherever a model looks is the part of the address work that pays back.

Neither park is a reason to put Solihull in every title tag. A procurement manager in another region is searching for the capability. The park is where the supplier happens to sit.

The point

A procurement manager in another region is searching for the capability.

06

What does the NEC change for a business that exhibits or supplies there?

It concentrates demand into dates. The NEC, which opened in 1976 and hosts national trade shows, brings buyers from outside the borough on set days, so the event landing page, the product or service pages and the follow-up route need to exist and be indexable before the event, not be written during it.

The second anchor is manufacturing. Land Rover's Solihull plant stands east of the Lode Heath district, and firms that supply plants of that kind sell on specification, certification and capacity. A supplier page that states those plainly will outperform a brochure page, because the buyer is more likely to search for the part or the process than for a place name. Content that answers the specification question is worth more here than a page about the borough.

Both cases are partly technical. Event pages rebuilt for every show, product catalogues behind scripts and PDF-only datasheets all fail quietly, which is why technical SEO comes before new content.

The point

Event pages rebuilt for every show, product catalogues behind scripts and PDF-only datasheets all fail quietly, which is why technical SEO comes before new content.

07

How should a B2B firm in Solihull approach SEO?

Around the buyer's problem, not the postcode. A B2B SEO plan for a Solihull firm maps who signs off a purchase, builds pages for each use case and specification, proves claims with evidence a buyer can check, and keeps the site readable to crawlers. Solihull belongs in the footer and the schema far more than in every title tag.

  • Map the buying group. The person who finds you is rarely the one who signs. Engineers, procurement and finance each search differently, and each needs a page that answers their question. Software and technology firms can see how this works in practice on our page for B2B and software businesses.
  • Write for specification and use case. A supplier near the NEC or an automotive plant is found for the part, the standard or the process. Pages named after those, with the numbers and tolerances a buyer needs, beat pages named after the town.
  • Put proof where the sceptic looks. Certifications, named standards, datasheets and genuine case material from your own work, on the page the buyer lands on. Be wary of any agency that borrows someone else's results instead.
  • Keep the technical layer clean. Scripts that hide content from crawlers, duplicate catalogue URLs and unreadable PDFs are the quiet failures. A B2B site is judged on whether its product and capability pages can be read at all.
  • Use the borough where it is true. A footer address, LocalBusiness schema, a contact page and one honest page about where you operate. Not a page per village. The broader question of how to choose a B2B SEO agency covers what to ask before any of this.
  • Know when SEO is the wrong first spend. If you need enquiries before a show, SEO or paid search is a real question, and the honest answer is sometimes paid first.
08

What does local SEO look like for Knowle, Dorridge and Shirley?

It is village-level work. Knowle and Dorridge share the B93 district, Shirley sits in B90 and Solihull town in B91, so a shop, practice or tradesperson in any of them needs a profile, reviews and a website that name the village they are in. A “Solihull” label alone is too coarse to describe where the business actually is.

Local pages follow the same rule as everywhere else on this site: a page earns its place only if it contains something that could only be written about that place. We would not write a page per village. We would write one for a village where the business has a genuine presence, with the local detail a customer can recognise, and leave the rest to the profile and the reviews.

A shop or practice in the Solihull town centre competes for different searches from one in a village beyond the M42, so the wider SEO programme is planned from the premises outward. That also explains why a business with premises in both is better off with two properly built profiles than one blended listing.

The point

A shop or practice in the Solihull town centre competes for different searches from one in a village beyond the M42, so the wider SEO programme is planned from the premises outward.

09

How do you choose the best SEO agency in Solihull?

Judge the evidence, not the claim to be best. Best cannot be verified, and an agency's postcode does not make it better at SEO. Ask for named, checkable work, a clear account of what will and will not be done, how it handles a borough with several postal identities, and who actually does the work.

Question to askWhy it matters hereWhat an honest answer sounds like
Which address and place-name forms will you standardise, and where?Solihull borough carries Solihull, Birmingham and Coventry post towns.A written list of the forms used on the site, schema and listings, and a note of old county lines or post towns to remove.
What is the plan if my buyers do not search for Solihull? Many B2B buyers search by problem, not by place.Pages planned around use case and specification, with the borough named only where it is true.
Who does the work, and where are they?An agency need not be in the borough, and none should hide where it is.Named people and a plain statement of location. If they are elsewhere, remote working is explained as it is.
What evidence will you show me?Claims of local knowledge are easy to make and hard to check.Live sites you can inspect, not anonymous sector labels. See how to choose an SEO agency for more.
What will you tell me not to do?Doorway pages for every village are the commonest bad advice.A short list of things to leave alone. If a supplier agrees to everything, ask again, and ask whether you need an agency at all.

How does work with a Solihull business actually run?

Remotely by default. Audits, writing, builds and review calls need nobody in the room, and meeting in person is possible by arrangement at either end. We are registered in Oldbury, in Sandwell, and have no Solihull office, team or client list.

Our delivery record to date is international rather than UK-based, and we are building a UK client base now. That is why we would rather show you live sites we have built than a list of Solihull names we do not have. The work is the same wherever you are: the sections above are the part specific to your borough.

If your plan involves the rest of the region, our Oldbury page sets out how the registered address does and does not matter, and the West Midlands overview covers the wider picture. When you are ready, tell us the address and the site you want looked at.

The point

If your plan involves the rest of the region, our Oldbury page sets out how the registered address does and does not matter, and the West Midlands overview covers the wider picture.

Pages built for the problem, the specification and the person who signs the purchase, not for the postcode of the supplier.

02

Address and post-town consistency

One written form of your address across site, schema and listings, whether your post town is Solihull, Birmingham or Coventry.

03

Village-level local SEO

Profiles, reviews and pages that name Knowle, Dorridge, Shirley or the town centre as the case may be, rather than a blanket Solihull label.

04

Technical SEO for specification-led sites

Crawlability, rendering and structured data on the product, capability and enquiry pages where a B2B buyer decides.

Business Profile eligibility advice

A straight answer for office-park and head-office firms on whether a Business Profile is appropriate, and what to do if it is not.

07

The case for it

Why this is worth doing properly

Planned around how the borough is really addressed

Solihull, Birmingham and Coventry post towns all occur inside the borough, and the plan accounts for that before any page is written.

Honest about B2B: fewer place names, more problems

If your buyers do not search for Solihull, we say so and build for what they do search for.

A straight answer on the Business Profile

Office-park firms are told whether the rule allows a profile before time is spent on one.

No pretend local credentials

No Solihull office, team or client list is claimed, and the page says where our record sits instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Solihull part of Birmingham for SEO purposes?

No, but the two overlap in ways search engines notice. Solihull is a separate borough with its own council, yet several parts of it carry a Birmingham post town, and the two adjoin. A Solihull business should be explicit about which council area and which post town it uses, and keep that identical everywhere it appears online.

Which address should a Marston Green or Castle Bromwich business use?

The address as Royal Mail prints it, because that is what directories and map data are built from. For both places that means a Birmingham post town, even though they lie inside Solihull borough. Describe the borough in your text and schema, but keep the postal form identical on every listing and page.

Do B2B firms in Solihull need a Solihull SEO agency?

Rarely. B2B buyers search by problem, specification and supplier type, not by the supplier's town, and the work (audits, writing, builds) is done online. What helps is an agency that plans around your buying group and keeps your address data straight. We are registered in Oldbury, with no Solihull office, and say so.

Can a business on an office park get a Google Business Profile?

Only if it meets Google's rule that a business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours. A head office that customers never visit may not qualify, and listing one anyway puts the profile at risk. Check the rule first. A B2B firm is usually better served by its website and consistent descriptions.

Do you have an office or clients in Solihull?

No. We are registered in Oldbury, in Sandwell, and have no Solihull office, team or client list. Our delivery record to date is international rather than UK-based, and we are building a UK client base. Work is remote by default, and meeting in person is possible by arrangement at either end.

Are you the best SEO agency in Solihull?

We do not claim to be. Best is not something anyone can verify, and we are not based in Solihull. What we offer is a plan built around the borough's real geography, written evidence you can check, and a plain account of what we will not do. Ask any agency for the same before you decide.

What would you check first for a Solihull B2B firm?

Whether the pages a buyer relies on can be crawled, rendered and indexed, and whether enquiries are being counted at all. Then the address data, so that Solihull, Birmingham or Coventry forms do not conflict. Only after that do we plan new pages, because writing for a site search engines cannot read wastes the effort.

Should an NEC exhibitor run paid search as well as SEO?

Often, for the dates themselves. SEO needs pages that exist and are indexed before the event, while paid search can cover the days SEO cannot reach. Whether it is worth paying depends on how contested the event and product searches are and on whether your own pages already answer them.
